Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 1.30%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 1.30%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Webjet Ltd (ASX:WEB), which rose 19.45% or 0.57 points to trade at 3.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Southern Cross Media Group Ltd (ASX:SXL) added 18.52% or 0.025 points to end at 0.160 and NRW Holdings Ltd (ASX:NWH) was up 12.17% or 0.18 points to 1.71 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Graincorp Ltd (ASX:GNC), which fell 4.17% or 0.15 points to trade at 3.45 at the close. CSR Ltd (ASX:CSR) declined 3.69% or 0.130 points to end at 3.390 and Challenger Ltd (ASX:CGF) was down 3.15% or 0.150 points to 4.610.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 840 to 400 and 341 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 21.13% to 21.598 a new 1-month low.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.22% or 3.80 to $1710.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.17% or 0.29 to hit $24.45 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.32% or 0.41 to trade at $30.56 a barrel.

AUD/USD was up 0.28% to 0.6548, while AUD/JPY rose 0.71% to 70.14.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 99.782.
